The Girl-Child Right Awareness Initiative in Africa, an NGO, has called on security agencies to act swiftly on the latest video released by Boko Haram insurgents on the abducted Chibok girls. The call was made by the Executive Director of the organisation, Mrs Temotope Awe, on Monday, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo. Awe urged the security agencies to collaborate among themselves and civilians to unravel those behind the video clip with a view to ending the psychological seize on parents of the abducted girls. She noted that the recent video in which the insurgents were asking the Nigerian Government to cooperate with them for the release of the girls was embarrassing and disheartening. Awe added that the plights of the innocent girls should be a thing of worry to every Nigerian and a great concern to the Federal Government. The rights activist enjoined President Muhammadu Buhari to swing into action and rescue the girls by “all possible means”. According to her, the parents of the abducted girls have suffered enough trauma since their wards were abducted in 2014, urging that the agony must stop in earnest. “The recent video of the Boko Haram insurgents on the abducted Chibok girls is indeed a national embarrassment; it is a big challenge to our security agencies. “It is incumbent on the federal government to quickly rescue the girls without delay through any means possible, and restore hope and joy to their families,” Awe said. NAN recalls that more than 200 students of Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno, North East Nigeria, were abducted in the early hours of April 14, 2014.
