Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has sacked education secretaries in 16 out of the 17 local government councils in the state.
The governor equally dismissed the management of Enugu State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency.
Poor performance was cited as the reason for the sacking of all the affected officials, which took immediate effect following the approval of the State Executive Council.
Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ikechukwu Udeuhele, who announced the development, explained that a panel set up to probe the activities of Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board had recommended the sacking of education secretaries of all the local councils in the state, except that of Awgu Local Government Area, who was appointed in June.
The dismissal of the education secretaries is expected “inject fresh ideas and impetus” in the basic education system in Enugu State, the commissioner said.
