New facilities were on Saturday commissioned on NAF Base Kaduna as part
of the ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of personnel.
Among the newly provided facilities are 1200-bed hostel built for
recruits and, quarters for airmen instructors at the Ground Training
Centre (GTC). Construction works on the new blocks of accommodation
started some months ago in anticipation of the recent increase of fresh
intakes from about 1200 to 2500 per annum.
The increase in recruit intake is aimed at providing employment opportunities for more young Nigerians who are genuinely interested in serving in the military and, to enable the NAF meet its manning requirement to adequately tackle insurgency in the North East and emerging security challenges in other parts of the country.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Mshl Sadique Abubakar stated that the projects were aimed at creating enabling working environment for personnel as a motivation to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently. Further in his speech, the CAS stated that his administration will not relent in its current drive until it has achieved a very credible feat upon which future generations can build upon.
Air Mshl Abubakar also used the opportunity of the occasion to commission new blocks of officers’ accommodation which were named after some fallen heroes who died at various times in their lines of duty. They include Wg Cdrs EO Adekunle, SS Balogun and CS Hedima. Others are Sqn Ldrs A Mohammed and BZ Oguntuase.
