Veteran reggae singer, Majek Fashek’s music business consultant, Omenka Uzoma, has threatened that his team would soon carry out legal actions against R&B singer, Timi Dakolo for allegedly infringing on Majek’s copyright.
Uzoma said the rights to ‘Send Down the Rain’ as part of the ‘Prisoner Of Conscience’ album released in 1987 is with Tabansi Records [Nig] Ltd.
He said the rights is also managed by Mango Records, a sub-label of Island Records in the Unlted Kingdom.
Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek came into limelight in 1987 when he sold over 200,000 of his Prisoner of Conscience album, with the hit song ‘Send Down the Rain’.
Lamenting Dakolo’s action Fashek had said, “I felt bad when I learnt that he worked on my song without my consent. He did not even give me credit.
“He is a very bad artiste and he took advantage of the circumstance that I was facing during that time. The song is not a normal song; it is a spiritual hit song.”
He added, “Timi Dakolo does not know how I suffered to get that song. I fasted for seven days before I got that song.
“I partook in three days ‘white’ fasting before the song came to me. Timi Dakolo did not go through that. I did not fight him because I do not have time. Let God judge.”
Dakolo who reacted to the accusation was yet to name the Fashek’s manager he paid to remix the song or the amount he paid.
He said, “I always try to do things rightly and lawfully. I paid his manager to remake the song, I got an invoice. I even mentioned to him during our rehearsals at the headies.”
Uzoman however, said the issues will be presented in the court where, according to him, everyone will be requested to tender necessary documents on how the transactions were made.
