A baby born with a giant tongue that could have choked him to death can finally smile after surgeons sliced off half of it. Aparajit Lodhi, from Jabalpur in the north Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, suffers from a rare congenital anomaly called Macroglossia, a medical term for an unusually large tongue

.The congenital overgrowth disorder was discovered when he was born, meaning doctors had to tell Aparajit's parents that he was not going to live very long. The rare condition caused his tongue to swell so big that choked on his own mouth. Fearing Aparajit wouldn't survive, a breathing apparatus was required to keep him alive.

Four days after being born, the infant underwent a surgery that reduced the size of his tongue tumor. It was a big tumor in the tongue and it took two hours to the team of doctors to remove the growth.

After the operation, the baby was given sugar water first and the mother was allowed to nurse him.

A sixteen-year-old girl went into surgery to have her appendix removed - only to find a miniature brain growing inside a tumor on her ovary. The child from Japan - who has not been identified - left doctors baffled when they found the 10cm-wide tumor, containing a 3cm-wide brain, and clumps of greasy matter hair, all covered by a thin plate of skull bone.

Upon closer inspection, it was found to be a smaller version of a cerebellum – which usually sits underneath the brain's two hemispheres.
A mass on one side resembled a brain stem – the structure that normally joins to the spinal cord.

The extraordinary case was revealed last week in a study released by Nara Medical University in Japan.

The tumor was removed three months later and she is recovering well.

It was unclear as to when the discovery and removal took place.

A Nigerian doctor, Ogoo Ekete has been hailed after helping a pregnant woman in labour deliver her baby while traveling to the village in Enugu state. According to Seun Oloketuyi, the delivery was done in a tricycle a.k.a 'Keke Napep' with the aid of a torchlight from a mobile phone.

Read the full details as shared by Seun Oloketuyi

Ogoo Ekete is a young Medical Doctor. But that's not all. She is also wife to my colleague, Fred, an Engineer in our Networks Department. Still that's not all. On New Year Day, God used Dr. Ogoo to accomplish a feat, which led to the birth of a potential leader of tomorrow and saved the life of his mother. Now, that's just it, but then there's a story behind the story. Come with me...

Traveling in the village with her hubby and children, to visit her sister, their car was flagged down by a desperate and anxious young man, whose wife was in labor at the LGA health centre (Iji Nike Cottage Hospital, Near Enugu East Development Centre Nkwo Nike) without any staff at work. Jesus!

In less than 5 minutes, Dr. Ogoo, a kind and blessed daughter of Zion, set up a mobile hospital in the "keke" that brought in the woman, and went into active delivery mode. Chai!

Fred's sister-in-law, whom they were going to visit and whose house was right opposite the Health Centre, played the midwife and used the torchlight in Fred's mobile phone to provide the needed illumination.

To the glory of almighty God, at 6:30 pm 1/1/16, she very meticulously and successfully delivered the woman of a bouncing baby boy. Praise the Lord somebody!

Let us thank God for the life of the baby and her mother. Only God knows what their fate would have been, had Dr. Ogoo hadn't happened around at the time, and wasn't spirit-led to render a selfless service according her Hippocratic Oath.

Please join me to celebrate this wonderful woman, this blessed medical doctor, this humanitarian, this instrument of God, Dr. Ogoo Ekete. She will rise and rise and rise to the top of her chosen career, in Jesus' name! She will find favor from men and women and, more importantly, from almighty God.

Immense thanks to Fred, a great chap and bloody good Engineer, the husband, who didn't first start thinking of possible deleterious consequences and, therefore, encouraged and supported his wife to do the great deed she's d

A desperate father carried his sick baby daughter on his head and walked for two hours through deep floodwaters to reach the nearest hospital in India. Pangi Satibabu, 30, a farmer, from Kudumusare village in Andhra Pradesh, carried his six-month-old daughter above his head for three miles to the nearest health centre after heavy rainfall led to a deluge.

Mr Satibabu was worried about his daughter’s high fever but all the roads connecting his village to other parts of the state and nearby hospitals were flooded.

But this week, when her temperature had still not come down, he decided to walk despite his family warning him of the risks.

The little girl was eventually admitted to the Primary Health Centre in Chintapalli, where she was tested and treated for a viral infection.

Dr Yerramsetty Venkatswararao said: ‘The child is still in hospital but is out of danger.

The World Health Organization has confirmed a third case of polio in Nigeria, Rotary Club said Monday: a crippled toddler found in an area newly liberated from Boko Haram Islamic extremists.

The West African nation that once was the global epicenter of the wild polio virus had been declared polio-free last year, along with the African continent. But two cases were discovered last month among refugees from areas recently won back by Nigeria's military from Boko Haram.

More cases are expected to be discovered in these areas. It is an indicator that Nigeria's war on polio cannot be won until it overcomes the insurgency by extremists who are violently opposed to Western medicine.

Rotary Club's field coordinator, Aminu Muhammad, told The Associated Press the new case was found in Monguno local government area. The others were further south in Jere and Gwoza. All are in northern Borno state.

Rotary is part of a new emergency immunization drive that vaccinated more than 1.5 million children last week in Borno, where WHO has said the virus has been circulating undetected for five years and where Boko Haram began its Islamic uprising in 2009.

The campaign is to spread across the country, with a plan to reach 25 million children before the end of the year.

But the U.N. Children's Fund has warned that about 1 million children are in areas too dangerous to access.

Nigeria's military has helped with the vaccination drive, which included logistics and other aid from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the United Nations and Britain's Save the Children as well as government health workers. Military helicopters flew vaccines into places too dangerous to reach by road, and truckloads of troops and armored cars escorted vaccinators elsewhere.

Muhammad said they were using "hit and run" tactics to reach kids in areas where Boko Haram is present.

A 25-year-old man in southwest China’s Yunnan province had his both kidneys removed during a surgery where he was lying unconsciously after a traffic accident on March 10, 2016. Neither did the man nor his family members accompanying him know about this until the patient was transferred to another hospital in the province and couldn’t urinate for days.

On March 20, the doctor informed him that he had lost both of his kidneys. The medical record showed that the man had severe injury in his right kidney when he was rushed to the hospital from the traffic accident scene.

The record also indicated that nothing wrong was detected on his left kidney. The hospital later said that the man had horseshoe kidney, which is a disorder that the patient's kidneys fuse together to form a horseshoe-shape. The hospital side also claimed that the man was in a very critical condition for too much blood loss when he was sent there.

Hence they proceeded with the surgery, even though they were aware that the surgeons were not fully capable of handling such kind of surgery. Ever after being informed that both of his kidneys, including the healthy left one, were taken in the surgery, the man and his family had been demanding for proper investigation and report.

It was not until August 16 that the man received the report issued by Yunnan Medical Association, stating that the hospital shall take major responsibility for the malpractice.

Currently the man is still waiting for kidney transplant.

The man kept his knife-eating habit secret from his family "In my 20 years of practice, I have never seen anything like it," doctor says New Delhi (CNN): A man in India spent two months swallowing knives and had 40 of them surgically removed from his stomach, according to the doctor who led the operation. "He had a wild urge to consume metal. Even for us, the experienced surgeons, it was frightening," Dr. Jatinder Malhotra told CNN. "We were so nervous... a small mistake could have taken the patient's life. In my 20 years of practice, I have never seen anything like it." Malhotra said it took his team about two days to form a diagnosis and surgery plan. The five-hour operation took place Friday in the northern Indian city of Amritsar, a Sikh holy city in the state of Punjab. Malhotra said they found foldable knives, which when fully extended were about seven inches long. "He [the patient] says he swallowed some knives folded, and some unfolded. When we took out the knives -- some were found folded, some were open, and some had even started rusting and were broken," Malhotra said. The patient, a 42-year-old father of two, told CNN he's feeling much better. "I'm sorry I let my family down. I'll be forever thankful to doctors and hospital staff for saving my life," he said. Malhotra says the patient is now "out of danger" and is set to be discharged in a couple of days. He won't be discharged until he's cleared by psychiatrists, which is set to happen in a couple of days, two doctors at the hospital told CNN. 'Try spinach' But the big question remains -- why did he start eating knives? "I don't know why I used to swallow knives," the patient told CNN. "I just enjoyed its taste and I was addicted ... how people get addicted to alcohol and other things, my situation was similar." Malhotra believes the patient has a very rare mental disorder that most likely has not been published in any international medical journal. The patient is currently under the continuous supervision of the hospital's in-house psychiatric team and will soon be visited by independent mental health experts, doctors said. The patient told doctors that he has no idea why he started eating knives but that he "developed a taste for metal" and "loved the way blades tasted." The patient even managed to keep his habit secret from his family, according to Malhotra. Now, Malhotra says, the patient claims he won't even touch a knife anymore. "I will never do such acts ever again," the patient said. "I'm a new person now." If the urge does strike, Malhotra and his team gave him some advice -- "we told him if you ever feel like you need more iron in your body, try spinach."

It was like a mirage, when one Isa Hamma of ChaffaJaule village in Fufore local government area of Adamawa State presented himself at the Jimeta Clinic and Maternity for an ailment. According to the elder brother of the victim, MallamUmaru Isa Yahya, he said that when they came back for the follow up on the appointed date, the doctor handling the case at the clinic, Doctor Yakubu Hassan, after clinical observation, told them that the ailment required surgical operation and it would cost N50,000,00. According to a post shared on Facebook by Abraham OC Ogolo, doctors at a Nigerian hospital removed a giant fibroid weighing 26kg from a woman's stomach. His post below:
"Doctors from Safe Hands Medicare Center Nigeria have removed this. According to the hospitals social media report, confirmatory results shows that the mass weighed 26kg in Histopathology lab and was a 32cm degenerating fibroid. This makes it the Largest ever mass to be removed from an individual in any part of the world.
Update: this surgery took place in 2014 in Nigeria...but still news to many..so continue reading...

The surgery was done without blood transfusion Access to good healthcare can make a difference. This is the reason I campaign vigorously for universal access to good quality healthcare. It is a common belief in Africa that a woman with a large mass such as this one may have been cursed by someone in her present or in her past life.
Some unqualified personnel may even attempt to make incisions (cuts) with unsterilised blades or knives all over her abdomen. She may be given different substances to drink and eat in order to deflate the tummy. Wrong diagnosis can be done in the absence of diagnostic equipments. This is the reason many still die in developing countries"

spermOne common issue about the difficulty in producing babies amongst married couples is the low sperm count and sperm quality. If you doubt this information please schedule a meeting with a Medical laboratory scientist who has records on those who come for testing. The statistics will shock you. Based on our tradition and cultural values, women have been erroneously labelled as the reason behind lack of babies in many home and as such called barren while in truth sometimes it is the hefty looking man with a low quality sperm that needs to be checked. http://www.healthchecktutor.com/default.htm
It is in record that low sperm count affects approximately one in 25 men. Stress, obesity, hormonal conditions and poor nutrition have been found to impact sperm health. If you and your partner are planning for a baby, a nutritional overhaul is a good place to start, to support healthy sperm production and development – although other approaches exist.
Two things are important in sperm quality; First is sperm motility which is the ability of the sperm to move in the female reproductive organ or through water to reach the egg and second is sperm morphology which is also called teratozoospermia. It describes what the shape and size of sperm should be for proper fertilization. The foods listed below have been found to be effective in proper motility and morphology of sperm
Ginseng
Ginseng
The popular Asian Ginseng plant has been used by the Chinese in the cure of many ailments. No wonder it is making this list. It is a powerful herb known for its extraordinary effects on improving virility in men. It increases sex drive and also enhances your sexual performance.
It has been found to be quite effective in men with erectile dysfunctions, increasing semen volume and sperm production. http://www.healthchecktutor.com/default.htm
GarlicGarlic
As a lover of garlic, the all round health effect is laudable. It is a very effective condiment that has been used for many years in the treatment various physical ailments including heart problems and respiratory infections. What most people don’t know is that it is also a potent aphrodisiac and very effective in boosting sperm volume.
It contains a compound called allicin which improves blood flow to the male sexual organs, increasing sperm production and semen volume. Garlic also contains Vitamin B6 and selenium which controls the secretion of sex hormones and reduces sperm damage. http://www.healthchecktutor.com/default.htm
Fatty FishFatty Fish
A study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that men eating a higher amount of oily fish experience a boost in their sperm count by a massive 65% and the interesting part is that getting result is almost immediate because when you eat a fatty fish containing about 10% fat, you can get the boost by the night of that same day. Amazing? Yeah, I thought so too.
The best fish for fats that contain the DHA and omega-3s include salmon, swordfish, tuna and sardines. This post was updated to include these sources of sperm boosters because some of them are common here, easy to get and also inexpensive. Click here for more info
