The free EP was only announced last week , with the release coming as a surprise late this afternoon. The project is entirely produced by legendary duo Cool & Dre, so you know you’re about to get some smooth beats. There are only two features on the EP, each past/frequent collaborators, Wiz Khalifa and Styles P. Wiz shows up on the paper-chasing anthem, “Speedboat,” which features whimsical production from Cool & Dre. Unfortunately, Rae Sremmurd’s SremmLife 2 won’t be the summer soundtrack we had hoped for, as the release has been pushed back into mid-August. The delay was probably a smart move, though, as the Ear Drummers duo needed a couple more huge singles to help drive up the anticipation for the follow-up to their much beloved debut album. “By Chance” has stayed hot for most of the year, and “Look Alive” — especially with its new video — is a lock in the current summer rotation. Their new single, though…man oh man. Now “#DoYoga” is what we’ve been waiting for from the grooviest duo in hip-hop.  The Sremm bros use the new track to describe their favorite type of girls, those that #DoYoga during the day and get high at night. It’s a mellowed-out hippie club anthem that has the same type of carefree charm as past hits like “This Could Be Us” and “No Type.” Though SremmLife 2 might not arrive until late into the season, make no mistake — it’s gonna be an Ear Drummer Summer.

Skepta Ft iLoveMakonnen & Céon – Coming Soon

 

Skepta had a couple of songs on his latest LP, Konnichiwa, that skewed towards more North American sounds, but his new loosie, “Coming Soon,” is certainly his most out-of-character and weirdest collab with an American artist yet, going embracing the playful, cartoonish world of SoundCloud trap on his Makonnen and Céon-assisted “Coming Soon”.

The record wouldn’t have sounded out of place on Lil Yachty’s last project, and is certainly a surprising move from Skepta, who nevertheless sounds comfortable on the warm, child-like instrumental.

While his delivery is a little more reeled in than usual, his bars are as hard as ever, closing his second verse with a perfect brag, “dropped Konnichiwa that’s the blueprint now you’re stuck with me”.

Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better” is transformed by Montreal beatmaker, Kaytranada. Kaytranada just dropped his debut album, 99.9% earlier this year, and while it found him collaborating with an impressive roster of like-minded artists, Rihanna was unfortunately not among them. Today, we’ve received the next best thing to an official collaboration, as the Montreal soundsmith tweaks Rih’s recent single, “Kiss It Better,” removing its synthesized, Prince-like guitar, and replacing it with deep grooves, pushing Rih’s tenor into a higher register in the process. It’s the perfect dancehall-ready companion piece to the original, and could possibly appear on his upcoming mixtape, 0.01%, which is expected to drop in the near future. Do we need Rihanna and Kay in the studio together for R9?

Desiigner – Panda (Afrojack Remix)

Desiigner made a strong entrance into the rap scene in 2015 with “Panda,” whose ascension to the #1 spot in the Billboard Top 100 made him the second youngest to earn that title aside from Lorde. Seeing an opportunity to boost his relevance with a festival mix, Afrojack just dropped his edit of the clip on his SoundCloud. The Dutch producer created a simplistic festival trap soundscape around the original, opting only to use a small clip of Desiigner’s verses in the beginning before inserting thundering bass and rolling drums and sharp synth melodies. The clip falls short in maintaining the caliber creativity present in “Panda,” but will likely be a hit in his sets this summer.
