Mourinho-instagram-teaser training
New Manchester United manager, has made his mark at the club’s training ground, just one week into his reign. The Portuguese has been nicknamed ‘Mr Meticulous’, as he begins to implement his methods at the Aon Training Complex.
One of the things Mourinho has done, is to remove the training-pitch cameras installed on the order of former boss, Louis van Gaal. The cameras were used for analysis by the Dutchman and his coaching team, but hated by the players.
Mourinho has also told the players, that he would not be holding evaluation meetings a day after games like Van Gaal.
The Portuguese’s style is usually to form a bond with players, rather than use a teacher/student mode.
“The players have been bowled over by the manager already inside just a few days – the training ground feels alive again and there is a spring in everyone’s step,” a training ground source told Sunday People.
“Michael Carrick is one of the senior players but he was saying he wished he was 25 again and facing a few years playing for Mourinho.
“The place is absolutely buzzing.
“The previous manager was very thorough in his planning and preparation and on the training ground but it all felt a little bit regimented.
“Some of the staff have already nicknamed Jose ‘Mr Meticulous’ because of his attention to detail – but the mood feels a lot lighter, albeit super-professional.

“The players know Jose will be demanding, but they are excited. They want to be competing for the league title again.”

Serena-and-Venus-Wimbledon2016
Serena and Venus Williams defeated fifth seeds, Timea Babos of Hungary and Yaroslavia Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3 6-4 on Saturday, to claim their sixth doubles title at Wimbledon. It was also their 14th doubles triumph as a team at the majors and their 22nd in 23 finals overall.
The only time the American sisters lost a doubles final in 1999, was in San Diego.
“It’s awesome to win another doubles at Wimbledon,” Serena said.
Venus added: “I never want to make a mistake. I don’t want to let Serena down. She brought the energy from the singles on to the doubles court.”
The two siblings are expected to feature at this year’s Olympic Games.
Portugal win Euro2016
Portugal overcame an early injury blow to Cristiano Ronaldo, to beat hosts France and win the 2016 European Championship. Ronaldo lasted only 25 minutes of the game in Saint-Denis, before he succumbed to injury and was replaced by Ricardo Quaresma.
Although Didier Deschamps men controlled most of the match, they failed to score in 90 minutes, with goalkeeper Rui Patricio in inspired form.
The sucker punch came in the 109th minute, as another Portugal substitute smashed in the ball from long range.
For Ronaldo and his team, it is sweet revenge, after they lost the 2004 final on home soil to Greece. This is also their first major title.

hodgson
The Football Association has admitted that they could replace Roy Hodgson with a foreign manager. Hodgson resigned on Monday night, after England were dumped out of the European Championship by minnows, Iceland.
A few English coaches have been linked with the vacant post, but the FA’s chief executive, Martin Glenn, says they will extend their search all over the continent.
“We’ll be looking at the best person for the job,” Glenn said at England’s final press conference in Chantilly on Tuesday.
“I’m not here to talk about names today. I’ve been consistent on this. We’re looking for the best person, not the best Englishman.”
Glenn, technical director Dan Ashworth and FA vice-chairman, David Gill, have been tasked with finding a new manager for the Three Lions.

Jason Day, the world's No.1 golfer has cited fears of Zika virus as his reason for not participating in the Rio Olympics to take place in Brazil this summer.
His move comes after four-time golf champion Rory McIlroy pulled out this month for similar reasons, while several other Golf big names have also said they won't travel to South America.
3
"The reason for my decision is my concerns about the possible transmission of the Zika virus and the potential risks that it might present to my wife's future pregnancies and to future members of our family," Day said in a statement published on his Twitter account.
"I have always placed my family in front of everything else in my life. Medical experts have confirmed that while perhaps slight, a decision to compete in Rio absolutely comes with health risks to me and my family. My wife Ellie and I have been blessed with two wonderful and healthy children and our plans is to have more.
"While it has always been a major goal to compete in the Olympics on behalf of my country, playing golf cannot take precedent over the safety of our family. I will not place them at risk."
Zika virus disease is caused by a virus transmitted primarily by Aedes mosquitoes and symptoms include mild fever, skin rash, conjunctivitis, muscle/ joint pain, malaise or headache. Zika virus is a cause of microcephaly and Guillain-Barré syndrome in new born babies.

The Nigeria Olympian Association (NOA), has pleaded with the federal government, to help the athletes preparing for the 2016 Olympic Games with financial support. Henry Amike, the president of the association, made the appeal on Wednesday.
The former quarter-miler stated that the athletes and coaches were preparing hard and needed assistance.

“The government should just support them, because there are some necessities that the athletes need now and those things cost money.,” Amike said.
“Most of these athletes use their personal money to do all these things.
“And they are representing a country at the Olympic Games; this should not be so.
“No country does that in the world, except Nigeria.

“I think the government should do something quickly; the Olympic Games are just around the corner.
“Training is going on very well; the coaches are doing very well; athletes are doing very well.
“But I just think that the government should come to their rescue.
“Let me be sincere with you, the athletes are preparing, all over the world they are competing and they are doing very well.
“Athletes just came back from the West Africa Championships and they won virtually all the gold medals there, and as I’m talking to you now, the Nigerian team are in South Africa.
“The Africa Athletics Championship is coming up, starting from tomorrow and I believe that they are going to do well there.”
The 2016 Olympic Games holds in Brazil from August 5 to August 21.

Mikel Obi captains vs Egypt Mar2016
Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has escaped punishment from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), after he failed to participate in a testimonial game to honour Joseph Yobo. The Chelsea midfielder, was excused by the NFF from two friendly matches against Mali and Luxembourg, to enable him feature in the game in Port Harcourt.
“Mikel was to be banned for staying away from the Yobo match because he was in Nigeria, he was in Lagos, and preferred not to be in Port Harcourt for the game even when he was specially excused to represent the NFF there,” a top source close to the NFF technical committee said.

“All the same, they still plan to discipline him one way or the other, but it won’t be as severe as a ban from the Eagles now.”

Ronaldo Hungary-v-Portugal-Euro-2016-Group-F
Cristiano Ronaldo refused to field any questions from the media, despite being named Man of the Match, after Portugal’s 3-3 draw with Hungary. The Real Madrid superstar scored twice and laid on one assist, as his side secured qualification into the Round of 16 at Euro 2016.
It is tradition that the player named Man of the Match, appears before the press and answer few questions.

Instead, the 31-year-old chose to give a statement, adding that Portugal’s media officer asked him not to answer questions.
“It’s a privilege to be named man of the match. But our priority was to win the match. We failed to do that,” he said.
“The bottom line was we wanted to qualify. We thought we were going to qualify in second place but Iceland scored in the last minute, so we placed third. We wanted to win, but we didn’t.
“We played a good match – it was a little insane, first they scored and then we did.

“I’m happy because the team was in dire straits as we were down three times and had to chase down our opponents to score to ensure we did not go home.”
Earlier in the day, Ronaldo threw a television presenter’s microphone into a lake during a pre-match walk.

It is sad news for Arsenal fans who are anticipating the arrival of England and Leicester City forward, Jamie Vardy as the prolific striker has agreed a new contract with his club, ending prospects of a move to the Emirate Stadium. After much speculation, the striker has decided to remain in his old club, turning down Arsenal who had earlier met his £20 million release clause and had hoped for an answer from the striker prior to the start of Euro 2016.
Vardy who was unwilling to take a decision on his future before jetting out to France for Euro 2016, has now opted to stay with the Premier League champions.

“Leicester City have today (Thursday) agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international’s contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years.
“Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club.
“Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France.”
“There will be no further comment from either the Club or the player on this matter until the conclusion of the tournament.”

Arsene Wenger had recently told a Japanese television, “Jamie Vardy, at the moment, is at Leicester. On what I know, he will stay at Leicester.”
Fans of the Premier League champions will also be hoping that N’Golo Kanté and Riyad Mahrez follow suit and give Leicester the best possible chance of building on their remarkable success as they will be needed in the Champions League.

Blatter thumbs up

Former Argentinian football star Diego Maradona on Friday accused FIFA’s former president, Joseph Blatter, of stealing while at the helm of the international football association.

Maradona compared him with a former government official imprisoned for corruption in Argentina, claiming that Blatter has more money
than Jose Lopez.

Lopez was Argentina’s public works secretary during the governments of Nestor Kirchner (2003 to 2007) and his wife Cristina Fernandez (2007 to 2015).

He was arrested on Tuesday while trying to hide millions of dollars in a monastery.

The former World Cup champion asked Loretta Lynch, the U.S. Attorney General investigating corruption within FIFA, to come to Argentina so that she could see things for herself.

He said a former Argentina football executive, Julio Grondona, who is already deceased, was the one who taught Blatter to steal.

Maradona, 55, said the current FIFA president, Switzerland’s Gianni Infantino, was “saddened” by the situation involving the football association.

“Infantino has asked me to collaborate.

“Both in FIFA and in the AFA (Argentine Football Association) dynamite has to be thrown in so that a fresh start can be made.

“Infantino was saddened. He could not do anything at all from outside of FIFA,’’ Maradona noted.(Xinhua/NAN)

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

Manchester City are reportedly in talks to sign Dortmund striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
It remains unclear the size of the bid but if the deal goes through, he would be the second Dortmund player who’s on his way to the Etihad.
Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has signed a four year deal with the Citizens and is Pep Guardiola’s first signing.
Pierre Aubameyang has been one of Dortmund’s most important players this season. In addition to being named African player of the Year, he was also named Bundesliga player of the season.
Dortmund seem to be on a clearance sales of sorts, having already sold influential defender, Matts Hummels to rivals Bayern Munich.
